I've been getting requests for Mommy/Baby or Daddy/Baby bird mobiles lately so I just added this one today:

I'll have more in the makes but I need to fulfill some orders first. Any fabric requests?

Thanks for the feedback and requests. I love to hear from you!

Oh, and tomorrow I'll tell you all about the world's best cookies and a new blog I discovered last week, thanks to my mom. THE best.

Sea Life Gone Purple

I had always assumed my Sea Life mobile would stay as-is, but then a recent customer opened my eyes to endless possibilities with her recent custom order request.

She loved the Sea Life mobile but wanted something purple for a seahorse-loving mama-to-be. The result, I'm tickled by...

I just love how the different colors and patterns make the little creatures jump out in a whole new way.

Have I mentioned I love custom orders?! So much fun! Thanks for this one.

What's next?!

For Mrs. Peas

A customer of mine is related to an apparently delightful woman named Mrs. Peas. Mrs. Peas has embraced her last name of "Peas" and likes all things having to do with peas. Yes, green peas.

Christmas-time rolled around and my customer was happy to discover some fabric resembling peas in my stash of diverse fabric choices for custom orders. Soon, her birds were made...

Mrs. Peas' friend was so excited about the gift idea that she ordered another single-bird mobile for the daughter of Mrs. Peas.

The post-Christmas report I received shares that all were very pleased with their unique and personal gift. I love custom orders!

Speaking of which, I just did a really fun, custom Sea Life mobile. I'll have to share that next...

Boy or Girl? How Would You Find Out?

Some people just have to know if they are having a boy or girl. It settles their heart. It fills them with excitement. It's a little taste of what's ahead.

My husband and I loooove the anticipation. We didn't find out the gender of our baby with either of our previous kids, and we aren't going to with this pregnancy either. But a little part of me questioned that approach for a bit with a recent customer.

She emailed and said that she was having an ultrasound two days before Christmas and they planned to find out the gender, but they wanted to wait until Christmas to find out. She asked that I make a "boy" blankie and a "girl" blankie, and she came to me with an envelope right after her ultrasound. Inside... was the gender. :)

I felt so honored to be the first one {okay, second, behind the ultrasound technician} to know what she was having. It tickled me even more when I heard her say that she thought she had seen the gender on the screen when she took a peak, and she was wrong. {Double :)}

I wrapped the appropriate blankie in a gift box she provided, and sealed the box. She took it home, wrapped it, and they opened it in front of both families on Christmas day. It's a...
BOY

Did you find out? Did you do it in a fun way? Do share! I'll live vicariously through you.

When In Doubt...

I saw this sign a while back in a not-to-be-named-but-about-10-miles-south-from-me town and just ran across it again in my photos. It cracked me up when I saw it. Hope you get a little chuckle...

Plastic or Reusable?

I'm still astounded by the statistic that an estimated 20 million plastic sandwich bags go into landfills in the U.S. every day. That's ridiculous! Think about what that means for the future of our kids and grandkids. Seriously.

Okay, guilt-trip aside, I wanted to remind you guys that "Kasey Sews" is offering her reusable sandwich/snack bags on Cookie+Curly's website.

To help you ring in the start of a new year (and back-to-school), Kasey's super-useful, environmentally-friendly, machine-washable and simple, practical reusable bags are on sale

Four sizes to meet all your needs, and you can choose from either boy:

or girl fabrics.

And each bag has a slip inside letting you know about the fabric's former life - a doll dress, an apron, little boy pants, a tea towel... you never know. They're all made from re-purposed cotton fabric though. How cool is that?!

So, think about it the next time you reach for a plastic bag that will in a short time just get thrown into a garbage bag. We HAVE to reduce waste.

Play your part. {And take advantage of the sale.} They're great for kids {school, birthday gifts, etc.} but I use them all the time for me too. Really, you just need these.

Treat to Minneapolis

I just shipped out this sweet mobile to a lovely woman in Minneapolis. She is 34, pregnant with her first - a boy! - and has found so much excitement in decorating his room. It was a pleasure to work with her! I'm hoping this mobile is all that she desired.

She wanted a mobile this same style and branch:

but with these colors:

So... her mobile:

I just love doing custom mobiles! I'm working on a custom mobile now for a woman wanting purple seahorses. So fun!

Happy day to you all.
